About Lake Hood
The Lake House Restaurant, Cafe & Bar stands dramatically at the centre of Lake Hood - an 80 hectare man-made lake fed by crystal clear waters flowing from the Ashburton River – one of the foremost tributaries of melted snows from New Zealand’s Southern Alps.
Surrounding the lake, a magnificent water sports & leisure park is provided for the public with 170 hectares of trees and lawns overlooking international facilities for rowing, sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, kayaking & associated water sports. A separate jet skiing area, round-the-lake walkway, natural wildlife area and swimming beach complete the park.
Canal residences are located on three islands linked together by wooden boulevards and half moon bridges. The walkway carries on to link the Lake House, nestled in Marina Bay, by hydraulic ferry.
Extension plans for Lake Hood are now underway which will see the addition of a further 84 hectares of waterways and islands set amongst 360 hectares of surrounding park land.
Lake Hood has grown from the vision of one man who dared to dream that such an astonishingly beautiful environment could be created. The vision has grown into an enormous charitable development for the region, driven by a multi-disciplined charitable trust – the Ashburton Aquatic Park Charitable Trust - which is the governing body for the park today.
